Gone are the days to only wear a veil. Brides still do opt for the traditional look a veil offers but after the ceremony, a more modern accent is usually preferred. Many times a veil might not be in your vision at all. No worries. 2012 Wedding season is promising a wide range of options for every bride. I have to say, I love to accessorize an updo. Finding the right one though to compliment the overall style and not take away from it is the hardest part. Before picking any accessory, I would reccomend deciding on your style first. When choosing anything additional that is most important because some veils or accessories don't always work well depending on what you do.

Flowers are a timeless accent that I think will always be instyle. Each season I see flowers. You can find them made out of just about any material. One of my favorites are flowers made out of feathers!

Headbands are extremely popular as well. You can find them with so many different types of embellishments as well as flowers. The nice thing about a headband is that it can be versatile. You can wear it in different places to give you a whole new look! Hair Styles such as the "Audrey Hepburn" and the side swept updos with texture look great with a headband.

Everyone knows about the feather craze that caught on very quickly. For your Bridal look a feather can be the perfect accessory to accent your look in so many ways. Not just the traditional white feathers but colored feathers for the bridal party. They even have metalic feathers or blinged out ones!

What girl doesn't love to sparkle? Especially on her big day! You can combine all of these trends into one sparkly piece. For a more affordable accent you can purchase a brooch that you would normally pin to a shirt and bobby pin that in instead.

Whether you choose to accent your look or keep it more simple. The day is all about your vision. Always keep in mind your dress and other accessories like your earrings and necklace. You don't want to over do it. Again, keep in mind the style you want to do and then choose the perfect accent to go with it. With all these options, you can't go wrong!!

2012 Wedding Trends
Every year I watch the looks on the runways and I fall in love all over again with wedding fashion and hair. The upcoming trends do not dissapoint and I am looking forward to sharing them with my future brides as well as my BE staff. Keeping up with these trends are not just for the clients but for my artists as well. Our passion runs deep and to see whats up and coming and know we have the capability to recreate those same looks on our clients is inspiring and refreshing. I'ts also confirmation that we have been on the right track. Our photo shoots during off season have created some of these same looks in a different setting. So here it is.. From the runway to the aisle!

Chignons have always been a classic look but there are so many ways to make the chignon classic, glamorous, and even modern. Here are some of my favorites.

Braids were extremely popular in 2011. This time around, incorporate the braid more into the updo. It's a nice detail in photos and adds very nice loose texture to the hair.

You can carry over either look to the side. Pulling your hair off to the side will help create some softness to the style and your facial features. Most off to the side style compliment just about any face shape. If you have a strapless dress, if you decide to go up with your hair then off to the side will compliment the dress perfectly!

The loose and textured looks are a huge favorite and I anticipate they will continue to be. If your not used to having the volume and you prefer something more sleek I highly recommend what I call the "Audrey Hepburn" The nice thing about the Audrey is that you can accesorize this look beautifully. The Audrey is a high bun with a very clean finish.

2012 Weddings is all about classic and glamorous looks. Vintage is always a sought after style and nonetheless beautiful as always. Vintage looks can be created with down styles or upstyles and can easily be vintage and modern at the same time.

Waves are a nice way to go instead of the spiral curl because even when they drop after dancing for hours they are still there! The style might be softer than when the night began but still beautiful.

Taking your waves and adding in a twist or a braid is also a nice touch.

2012 wedding season offers a nice range. The styles are all classic and compliment every bride. Alot of these styles can also translate into your own customized look by adding accessories or using different aspects from each style to create one that is perfect just for you!

Good hair makes a woman feel pretty and great hair makes a woman feel pretty and confident! I always say that no matter the trend, every person should create their day of look by what suits them. You have to be comfortable and love your pictures for a lifetime. Timeless beauty is the goal and everyones idea of that is different. So this may be the trend of the season but, feel free to let them inpire you just as they inspire us as artists.

Elle Girl 5 Holiday Hair Tips

I was contacted by Elle Girl Magazine to give my 5 Hair tips for the Holidays. I was thrilled to contribute to such a great magazine for young women. I linked up with one of my favorite photographers, Joe, from Joe Crawford Photography to get just the right look to go along with my tips. Models, Samantha Mally and Joasia Tomcyk, were also excited for the opportunity and a chance to get glammed up with their holiday looks I created for them. There were so many great photos from the photo shoot I wanted to share the ones that didn't make the article.

Little trick to create static. A balloon was perfect! It was alot of fun rubbing this all over Sam's head to get the static we needed for the shot.

Mermaid waves on Joasia is a perfect hair style for any occasion. Check out this one with a brooch as her accessory!

I wanted to show the versatility in mermaid waves. It can turn into a beautiful upstyle as well. .

A Night of Imagination..Creativity for a Cause

A Night of Imagination is inspired by the world of an artist. This is not your typical Fashion show. It is also a Hair Show with Fantasy styles designed by Blondie, the runner up contestant on Oxygen's Hair Battle Spectacular. Ashley is always looking for a way to combine her creativity and her love for giving back. Creativity for a Cause was born! All proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Non profit organization Wigs For Kids. They provide hand made prosthetic wigs for children that have suffered from hair loss. All wigs made by this organization are donated to these children at no cost to the family.

We will also be having a raffle event that you do not want to miss so come early! During our Sweets inspired cocktail hour we will be having a chinese raffle to win some amazing prizes of your choosing. All raffle sales will be donated as well to Wigs for Kids. Runway - Runway TV Collections Fashion Magazine - Ashley Stone: Hair Battle Spectacular's 'Blondie'!

From working daily in her salon to battling it out on the main stage with celebrity judges, this year has been a whirlwind for Hair Battle Spectacular, frontrunner, Ashley Stone. She brought her talents in hair and beauty into the national limelight, this summer, as she became one of the eleven contestants chosen to compete for the $100,000 grand prize on Oxygen’s second season of Hair Battle Spectacular and now, the finale airs tonight, Monday, October 3rd at 10PM. Tune in to watch Ashley (the sole female remaining) duke it out against Bossa Nova and Nostradamus.

As a hair extraordinaire, entrepreneur, and television personality, Ashley Stone, may be best known as ‘Blondie’ on the small screen, but she has been making a name for herself in the beauty world for the past decade. This Connecticut native is not only a talented and successful businesswoman, as the owner of Salon Alexander and Beauty Entourage (traveling hair and makeup business,) but thanks to her efforts and determination, she is now an expert in avant-garde hairstyling as well. Blondie was a challenge winner from the first episode back in August, with her own take on Nicki Minaj’s Harajuku Barbie look. From that moment on, Ashley hit her stride in Fantasy Hair on the competition series and she never looked back.

We sat down with Ashley to hear the inside scoop of competing on HBS, the newest and best hair styling tips, and which celebrity’s locks she would like on her head.

Runway: How would you describe your sense of style?

Ashley Stone: My style changes depending on the day! I'm usually in salon attire and on any given day you can find me in leggings with a cute flowy top or a dress with high heel boots. I love a great skinny jean with a dressy shirt. Heels are a usual must for me! That is what I consider casual!

R: Who are some of your favorite designers to wear?

AS: I'm in the salon a lot, so I tend to shop for clothes that are fashionable, yet inexpensive. Most of which are not brand name. My favorite shoes though are ALDO. They always seem to have a confortable 5 inch heel I can stand in for 8 hrs. I have a major shoe obsession!

R: What are the latest hair styling trends?

AS: Break out your hot tools because a curling iron or flat iron will be your best friend. Loose wavy and tousled hair is a huge trend. Also, very sleek smooth styles are starting to become popular.

R: Do you have any role models or inspirations in the hair world? If yes, who?

AS: I love Tabatha Coffey. She tells it like it is and more times than not, she is very much right. I like that she has traveled the world and worked in many different settings. From those experiences, she learned and retained different things with her own twist. A strong successful woman is an inspiration to me and she has many successes in the hair industry. One of which is making herself a house hold name. She is memorable and I admire that.

R: What advice can you give to our readers that cannot afford salon prices but still want the salon quality dos?

AS: Take care of your hair. Moisturize and protect it. Leave in conditioners and thermal protectors when using hot tools is very important. The more damage that is done to your hair, the more you will need to see a professional to help you correct it.

R: How did you learn to do the avant-garde hairstyling that we have seen this past season?

AS: I am self taught on mostly everything I know. I have never done hair pieces such as the ones I had done on the show. I had never even heard of anyone using chicken wire or a hot glue gun in the hair! Everything I created on the show I was teaching myself as I went. I have done some Avant Garde styling previous to being chosen, but it was only with small foam shapes that were used in addition to the model’s hair such as a square bun or a ponytail made out of foam balls. I had never made anything that stood up vertical from the head higher than just a few inches until I was on Hair Battle Spectacular.

R: What was the most challenging battle in the series?

AS: Most battles were challenging for me because of my lack of experience with Fantasy Hair. If I had to choose one, I would have to say that the Finale was the most challenging. I had to make 3 separate hair pieces in a short amount of time, which was tough. Plus, all three pieces had to have very sturdy foundations, as the hair couldn’t fall off the model’s heads while they were dancing. Throughout the season, I was always able to get my hair pieces to stay on the model, but oftentimes, it came down to balance. Having the models dance was going to be a true test to the sturdiness of the foundation and it was definitely tricky.

R: What is was your favorite part about shooting season two? Were you a fan of season one?

AS: Every time I was in the salon it was my favorite part. It's what I was familiar with, so it was comforting to be there. I was always excited for the next thing they would throw at us and loved filling my brain with a million ideas that I could create. I actually didn’t really watch season one. I didn't really understand the concept of fantasy hair. The best thing I got from being on the show this season was realizing art can come in many forms. Some of which are misunderstood. Even though you might not see the artistic value in something, someone else does. And the feeling it gives is a positive one so how could you go wrong?

R: You have two successful businesses, was it difficult to get either your Beauty Entourage and Salon Alexander started or were both always a success?

AS: Beauty Entourage was always a success. I had no issues getting it going and things grew and progressed at a pace that was manageable. The risks starting up were minimal and there wasn't much overhead when I began. It was a very niche market and by word-of-mouth, the business quickly grew.

Salon Alexander, however, required more of an investment and a risk. It took time for me to build my salon, to make it unique and stand out from the other salons that exist on every other corner. With the determination and hard work, came very long hours, expensive mistakes, and lots of moments where I questioned myself. Ultimately, I wanted this salon very badly.

When I decided to open Salon Alexander, I had a full clientele who were loyal to me. Although that was enough to get me by, I certainly couldn't be the only one working there. No matter how successful I am alone as a stylist, it means nothing if I'm the only one covering all expenses. I spent two years covering the initial expenses, but couldn’t find the right people for the salon. Luckily, I was busy enough to eventually take yet another risk, by moving my salon to a bigger and more accessible location. Once doing so, the salon took off! I still work the long hours but, I enjoy them more now accompanied by other stylists in my salon just as busy!

R: What advice would you give fellow hairstylists interested in exploring their entrepreneurial aspirations, like you have?

AS: Research everything! There are so many more aspects to a salon than just doing hair. Make sure that if you decide to go into business for yourself that you love what you do. It has to become your life! Being a business owner is not a job, it is a lifestyle.

If you’re looking to have a business to have more freedom and flexible hours, then having a salon may not be what you should be doing. Explore all options before making any decisions. A business plan is important to have whether you need one or not. It helps outline exactly what you are looking to do and the reality of expenses. Always have an exit strategy. No plan is ever fool proof and things can happen. Lastly, be an experienced stylist before taking that jump to salon owner. I may have been only 23 when I opened my salon, but I was already a booked stylist at the salon where I previously worked. I had clients that would follow me if I left. Without them, I would have never made it.

R: What is one thing our readers would be surprised to learn about you?

AS: I'm a PTA mom! I'm proud to be a member of my son's PTA at his elementary school and I do a lot of volunteer work. I am a room mother. So every Monday on my day off, I volunteer in his class for an hour. Also, once a month I volunteer at the local hospital teaching women going through chemotherapy how to do their make up and style their wigs.

R: If you could swap hair with anyone, (dead or alive) who would it be?

AS: Jennifer Lopez

R: What is next for you?

AS: The Runways of NYC. It's been a dream of mine since I was little girl. I had my son young so I chose another route but, I'm still going for that dream! I used to watch videos from fashion week in awe of runway hair and one day I will be in awe watching my own work in person.

Gotta love facebook. One random afternoon I had a cancellation and was reading in my Newsfeed. Came across a post from David Long for a photoshoot opportunity for Hair & Make Up. Of course, we contacted him right away, packed up our bags and hit the Bushnell! I had no idea what David was up to but, I jumped on a chance to have our work photographed by the wonderful Candace Jeffery and get to meet David in person. Little did I know it was a promo shoot for Engaged Hartford! David extended the invite to us to join them the day of the event as well! After hearing the premise of the show I knew I wanted in! This will not be your typical wedding show. It will not only be a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some veterans in the wedding business but, a great way to learn some insider tips in every category you are probably going to be looking into for your wedding day! Eleven New Stylists Compete for $100,000 Prize

New York, NY - July 6, 2011 - Hosted by actor, fashion model and TV host Eva Marcille ("America's Next Top Model"), "Hair Battle Spectacular" is returning for the second season on Monday, August 15 at 10pm ET/PT. This season, the competition series pits 11 of America's hottest stylists against each other to see who can deliver the biggest and best in fantasy hair design. Part sculpture and part pop art, fantasy hair has become part of mainstream pop culture through icons such as Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Each challenge requires contestants to create outrageous coifs that resemble everything from Hollywood stars to hounds and handbags. The stylists then enter the ring to bring the drama and present their hair creations in a high octane and stylized performance. After each challenge, the judges -- award-winning fantasy hair designer Derek J, celebrity stylist Taylor Jacobson ("The Rachel Zoe Project") and a rotating guest judge -- critique the stylists on creativity, execution and overall presentation. Ashley Stone "Blondie" Hometown: Newington, CT After leaving a traditional high school to go to a specialized school where she received a cosmetology license, Ashley planned to do hair only as a "side gig" while attending the Fashion Design School in New York. However, she fell in love with hair instead and never looked back! A savvy businesswoman, Ashley owns two businesses: Salon Alexander and a traveling hair and makeup organization called Beauty Entourage. Known as a trendsetter, she often hosts charity events with her big hairpieces serving as conversation starters. Her five-year-old son is her inspiration and motivation.

Tyler True "Atomic" Hometown: Los Angeles, CA After only four years in the business, Tyler has become a hair expert for Brazilian Blowout and currently serves as the Director of the International Education Team for the company. For the last year and a half, he has focused his talent on styling a countless number of fashion shows, high-fashion runway hair, celebrities and fantasy and couture looks. As a self-proclaimed "hair scientist," he concocts his own formulas for color, precision cutting, balayage, and up-dos.

Jeannine Calia "J9" Hometown: Providence, RI At only five feet tall, Jeannine, or "J9" as she is notoriously known, packs a lot of swagger into a tiny package! Having already racked up an impressive list of credentials including the February cover of Retro Lovely magazine and repeat appearances as a key hairstylist for Providence's prestigious Fashion Week runway, she considers herself to be the only real competition. Ready to compete, she can't stand famous stylists who don't have the goods to back up the hype.

Gabriel Quinones "GQ" Hometown: La Puente, CA Gabriel picked up his first pair of clippers in the seventh grade when he got tired of his brother's friends cutting his hair. In 2007, he established and opened his own barbershop, GQCuts Hair Shop, in his hometown of La Puente, CA. He is the official "Party Rock" hair stylist for LMFAO and the Platform Artist/ Educator for Johnny B Hair Care. A control freak by nature, he has tried to take criticism over the years when it comes to his work, but he is not one to keep his thoughts bottled up inside.

Alessandro Vole "Bossa Nova" Hometown: Beverly Hills, CA With his Brazilian flair, Alessandro is sure to bring the heat to this competition. His passion for the arts can be traced way back to his childhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He learned his love for hair from his grandmother at an early age and has been mastering the art ever since. One minute he can be a suave Beverly Hills stylist and the next he's dancing to the beat, recounting his partying at Carnival. A constant flirt, he isn't afraid to charm his clients.

Spencer Lebowitz "Camouflage" Hometown: Redondo Beach, CA Spencer began his career as a barber in the U.S. Coast Guard but quickly learned that military life was not for him. As a fearless hairstylist, he will try anything and believes he can accomplish everything he dreams of. Unwilling to compromise, Spencer is not one to bite his tongue when it comes to confrontation.

Kristin Jackson "Dimples" Hometown: Brooklyn, NY Growing up with a U.S. Marine for a dad, Kristin knows discipline and strives to be the best at everything. Her artsy leanings put a spin on her pink-loving, "girly-girl" personality. While some girls collect dolls, she gets tattoos of her favorites, including Barbie! Only three years into her career as a stylist, Kristin styled pop star Katy Perry's "California Gurls" video. She is a tireless competitor who loves to one-up herself.

Bethany Bell "Queen B" Hometown: Moorestown, NJ Growing up as an awkward teen from a single-parent household, Bethany didn't really fit in. Unable to narrow down a major for college, her mother suggested hair school, where she found her true passion. While building her career as a hairstylist, Bethany went on to college to obtain a degree in business. She believes that hairstyling is not just an art form but also a way to touch people and inspire confidence. After becoming close with two clients and their autistic child, she created a non-profit organization called La Femme Hair Exhibition as a way to unite hairstylists and creativity while giving back to the community; all of the proceeds are directed towards autism research. While she admits to being a little materialistic and a bit of a diva, Bethany strongly believes in giving back.

Kirby Keomysay "Nostradamus" Hometown: Omaha, NB With his uncle serving as his inspiration and mentor, Kirby was running his first hair salon at the age of 15 in his parent's basement. After finishing high school, he entered the Capitol School of Hairstyling and won a North American Hairstyling Award (NAHA) in 2006. With a huge ego, he is not afraid to tell you all about the nice cars he drives and the successful salon he owns at such a young age. His goal is to "strive for excellence" and isn't afraid to push the limits of fantasy hair. This sense of adventure and pushing the boundaries carries into his personal life, which includes passion for fashion, food and dancing.

Dnise Brown "Bronx" Hometown: Bronx, NY A former mortuary science student, Dnise has a competitive edge and isn't afraid to run with it. She prefers the freedom and creativity of working freelance and lets her work speak for itself. Born and raised in the Bronx, she is ready to take on the West Coast and show Los Angeles what she has to offer!

Brenda Waters "Mz. H2O" Hometown: Smyrna, GA Dubbed "The Hair Whisperer," by her colleagues Brenda has more than 15 years of experience transforming ordinary hair in to extraordinary masterpieces. Losing her hair at the age of 6 from a botched chemical service ignited her passion for hair. A renowned Atlanta stylist, Brenda's work has been seen on the red carpet and in Sophisticate's Hair and Essence magazine.

Anything hair related you can pretty much consider me 100% obsessed with. I've dabbled in some Avant Garde Hair now for the past few years where I made some pieces for various charity shows I put on and showcases. All of which have been wedding related so far. I was lucky enough recently to take part in a reality show that involved nothing but Fantasy/Avant Garde hair. So now the creativity is pretty unstoppable. I've been quiet on the blog lately :( I've been away on some top secret stuff which I will be anouncing very soon. Since I've been back I've been catching up on all the hair I've missed in Ct and of course it is Wedding season!!! <3 I will do my best to get back on posting our adventures on the road. In the mean time, here's some fun stuff!

I did a photoshoot today with Catherine Fiehn. Catherine and I met 3 years ago where her daughter modeled in my first charity fashion show and Catherine came to document the day. I saw then this woman's talent is beyond what I've seen. She took random photos of the girls in the hallway before they walked the runway and turned them into a work of art! The following year I was lucky enough to have her come out to a showcase fashion show and take more pictures and once again she worked her magic. I have been dying to collaborate with her again and use her daughter as one of my models. Our schedules always conflict and we kept putting it off but FINALLY we set a date. Today was that day. Hair Trials & Make Up Trials

Hair and make up trials are very important to have done. Reason being is it is best to make sure you and your artist are on the same page with what the final result should be. The trial gives you the opportunity to meet your artist, consult, and together determine what would compliment you best. It is helpful for us to know a few things before hand to have a successful trial.

For Hair:

My first question I always ask... How do you NOT want to look? What do you hate about your hair?
That usually can start me off in the right direction.

Pictures are VERY helpful but, can be the kiss of death if your not realistic in your expectations. If you show me a picture of someone with a very large updo with volume etc.. and your hair is only shoulder length then we arent accomplishing that look right at that moment. However, a consultation for hair extensions instead might be the first step ;)

I ALWAYS recommend to arrive with Clean and Dry hair. I can always dirty it up if need be. I personally like to start with a fresh palette. It gives me more options. Oily hair can drop a curl and make volume alot more difficult to achieve or even hold up.

Bring any hair accessories you plan on using or just want to try out and see what it looks like. If you don't have anything no biggie, Just ask if you have questions or would like our oppinions. We do thousands of updos..litterally. I can easily tell you whats the trend in Ct at least! lol I'm constantly scouring the internet and the runway to see whats up and coming too so please feel free to ask for suggestions.

My best advice is, if your indecisive coming into your trial, most times than any you will not be fully satisfied when you leave. You need to have at least a general idea of what you are looking for. As professionals we will make suggestions that we feel would enhance what is already in your thoughts but, we are not mind readers and we don't know you from any other day as to what your normal hair routine is. Don't ever feel afraid to voice your oppinions or your ideas. A stylist that takes offense is a stylist that should take a walk.
You hired us and it is our job to listen to your needs and execute them as so. Communication from beginning to end is the only way to a successful trial run.

We have a 96% rate of achieving the look our clients are looking for the first time round because we keep them well informed throughout the process. I can't give away all our secrets as to what also makes that rate very successful, however, hopefully these tips can help you have a great trial or expectations when you book your appointment whether it is with our entourage or someone else's.

In final thoughts... When getting a trial your stylist or make up artist should always perform to the ability as they would the day of your wedding. If you receive a trial that is a "general idea" then that is not a trial run. You need the real deal so you can see what your hair does throughout the day. Test run that hair and make up. Make sure it lasts through out the day your just running errands or cleaning the house! That is hair and make up that will look fabulous the day of your wedding too!

ok, so that was amazingly hard to do! This blog would go on forever if I could. I absolutely love nothing more than the artistic side to what I do. These photos visually inspire me. Not only were these photographers able to get great shots of our work but, they caught shots that just stood out from the rest.
What stands out the most with these pictures to me is that they are memorable and most talked about by my clients, my staff, and myself. Boudoir Show

I'm always looking for anything to inspire myself and my team and something fun to share with my clients. So, in search of something to do for my own anniversary I came across this idea of a Boudoir Photoshoot. I had to do some research because I had no idea what it entailed and my first thought was (after having a child) if I felt comfortable doing this and how naked do these things get lol.

Luckily, one of my clients Diane, owner of Parsons Photography , had an appointment to get her color done and it gave me plenty of time to ask questions and pick her brain to see what this was all about. After talking with her I had other conversations with clients and found many women loved the idea but also had the same questions. So, the idea was created. Why not have a fashion show surrounding the idea of this kind of shoot and have Diane come shed some light on the topic. We came together and invited all of our clients to this exclusive invite only event that I hosted at my Salon in Newington. Let me just say how excited I was about this idea that I was actually having this show at my salon. I recently relocated to a larger space and the salon made for a PERFECT space for this kind of thing. (This is exactly what I dreamed of when I first laid eyes on the space) The date was set and the invites went out. We got an overwhelming response! I don't know about you but, there's not much to do in this state. Nothing is better then something different to do with the girls.

My team and my models came together collectively to create the looks with things out of our own closets! Nothing is better than a room full of women brainstorming. It was great. The excitement once everything was set was overwhelming. I've put on my own shows before but, this one was so different. The main point was to have fun and exude confidence. Not for nothing thats the basis of a boudoir shoot.

It was a crazy day to say the least! We had a few regular color clients prebooked on this date and if anyone knows me, it's like pulling teeth to move an appointment and usually will never happen unless I'm deathly ill or have to get emergency surgery (which unfortunatly has happened lol) So, we did our models in between our clients on top of setting up the salon. Gave my regular clients some behind the scenes action lol. Needless to say they are never surprised by my ideas and the things we do and thought it was great to watch!

Everything was all set to go and the doors opened. We got a GREAT turnout! You never know with these things. Some hor'dourves, champagne, and a scavenger hunt to get girls mingling and get to know Beauty Entourage and Parsons Photography.

To kick off the show we introduced ourselves and the purpose of the event folowed by some give aways! My favorite idea I came up with was this HILLARIOUS game that turned out to be a hit with the guests. We had a team of two compete against each other. One person in the team was blindfolded and had to dress their other teammate with lingerie (over their clothing) give them an accessories and apply lipstick on them. Reminder, this was done blindfolded! When they were done they had to compete on the runway with their looks. It was great! Loved this part of the show...In the end we couldnt help but give them both a prize for participating in the fun.

Next up SHOWTIME!!!! I can't say enough about my models..Some of the girls\we knew from other shows we've done. (most models we use are past bridal clients usually that stick around for the fun lol) We also had some new additions to the ladies and even some of our very own BE staff bared all!!

Love this girl. She worked that run way! She was a teacher and even surprised us with her apple she hid at the end of the runway lol gotta love the dedication to character!

Kayle (Hair Stylist & Make Up artist on my staff) I had this crazy idea to go braless and covered in pearls. There's no end to how far my girls will go with my crazy ideas..I love them! It ended up amazing and made for one of the top looks that were the talk of the show.

2011 Accessories and Hair Trends

I will start that all brides need to be trendsetters. When you design your wedding, make it personal to you and set your own trends. Invariably, however, many want to know what is predicted to the newest trends in weddings for 2011. Here is what we have seen that is predicted to hit the aisle!~Trends for the aisle in 2011~

Hair Acessories

Head Bands~ I have to say personally I love that headbands are hitting the aisle! There are some pretty fierce ones out there! Headbands can be incorporated into just about any style. Most commonly seen on the runway are with more sleek style or styles with just some soft texture. That is the best way to wear them because if you have too much going on with the hair it takes away from the headband. DIY tip: Head to Michaels art's and crafts and Joanne Fabrics. You can easily find a simple cloth heaband or even ribbon and bling it out or hot glue a flower to it.

Hair Pins~ Hair pins are smaller accessories that can add a subtle touch to a simple style or add multiple pieces into a more complicated style to make the texture stand out more. This a great option to add in if your not doing a veil or after you take out your veil add into your hair easily for a different look.

Big Flowers~ Also, a BIG trend and one of my favorites. BIG flowers. Not just any flower, you need an oversized flower! They can be attached to a headband or just by themselves pinned in. Go for a more dramatic vintage look with feathers attached as well.

Hair Trends

The soft textured look will still be a popular choice but Straight styles will be making a strong presence this year. Straight hair pulled loosely in a chignon ( a folded bun) or hair that is bulled back and pinned with larger curls. More of a sleek finished look in comparison to the messy "undone" look that was popular for 2010.

Hiring a company with a team they can trust...December 11th Wedding

Gina's wedding is a unique one for us. For many reasons that I will explain in more detail as I go along. I think it's important for me to be honest with how I handle all situations because life is unpredictable. With those unpredictable moments the only thing that makes a difference is knowing how to handle them.
With that being said, the following is how we handle ANYTHING that is thrown our way.

The trial: We met Gina a few months before her wedding date for her hair and make up trial. I was the original stylist on her wedding (Ashley) so I did the trial and Iralis was her assigned make up artist. Upon meeting Gina we clicked right away! I knew and understood her want and need for long hair with curls and immedietly saw her vision. I went ahead and styled her hair to give her an "idea" of the look which I normally don't do. I'm not an "idea" type of stylist. I do your hair as I would the day of so you KNOW what it will look like and what it will do (hold, drop, etc) I gave Gina an "idea" because I already knew Hair extensions was the way she was going to want to go and give her the full effect of her visual. After seeing her hair she agreed more length and more hair was the way to go!

Then we moved on to the make up trial. She seemed very happy with everything but, I sensed maybe she wasn't saying something. After convincing her we would not be offended at all she did voice some options with some changes to the make up. This was voiced to me after she had already left so without hesitation we got her right back in for a free trial to nail down the look she wanted. Her second trial with Iralis was a huge success and put all her worries to rest.
I only point out this situation because it is so important that all of our clients understand that we are here to do what YOU want. As professionals we will give you our advice etc but, in the end you have to feel comfortable and love the way you look. We are here to take your input and ideas and help translate that for you and we would love nothing more than to have the opportunity to make ANY changes. Gina allowed us to have the opportunity to do that at a second trial for make up and Iralis was able to nail exactly what Gina was looking for.

Gina's Hair extensions that we decided to go with were clip in hair extensions that I specially ordered and sewed for her. She had thicker hair so a double wefted extension was her best option. We specialize in extensions and we can customize any hair piece for all types of hair whether they are clip in, seamless, or bonded extensions.

Day of the wedding:
ok, so I don't know if you noticed but, I said I was the "original" stylist on Gina's wedding and I did the trial. Unfortunately, I could not do her hair for her big day. I have been doing weddings for 8 years. I have heard horror stories from brides over the years about their stylist bailing on them or canceling last minute. I swore I would NEVER be that stylist. Today was the very first time I did not attend a wedding I was booked. This is where life's unpredictable moment came into play. I had to get unexpected surgery to remove my gall bladder two days before Gina's wedding. I gave Gina a heads up and I had the utmost intention to maintain my need to be the stylist not to cancel on my bride. My team thought I was nuts for thinking I could work. I put in place a back up stylist which is a stylist that has trained with me personally over the years. I knew if for some reason I could not do this wedding she would be the best to duplicate my work. Due to unforseen complications from surgery I woke up this morning and physically could not walk and made in the call to my team. Before even doing so, I got in touch with Gina first thing this morning. Gina was AMAZING and very understanding and luckily trusted whoever I sent her way.

I pretty much stayed in touch with my team the entire time they did Gina's wedding..lol..I was so jealous I wasn't there :( I made them send me pics and updates along the way. The girls had a blast with Gina and her bridesmaids. I am soooo looking forward to seeing her pro pics with her entire look. Thank you Gina for being such a great and understanding bride. Congrats on your wedding <3

oh yes, we did a Black Friday wedding!! I most certainly did not partake in the black friday shopping this year...I needed to be ready to go and AWAKE for Colleen's wedding lol.

Colleen's wedding day turned out to be a pretty great weather day considering the time of year. Her and her girls had gotten ready at her aunt's house right around the corner from our salon in Newington. It was such a stress free laid back day you wouldn't have thought anyone was getting married! The girls in the party were great! Lots of steady conversation with some good laughs. We finished 40 minutes early and we had an additional girl add on for hair at the end. My favorite part was when Colleen fessed up to me at the end when we were cleaning up...She confessed she was nervous about our timing. She thought the timeline we had was too short of time to get everyone done but, she was AMAZED that we finished early and that everyone looked beautiful! She couldn't believe how smooth everything went. Hilight of my day :) Thanks Colleen for allowing us the opportunity to be apart of your day you will always remember <3

Taking the leap!

When I first started my businesses I was lucky enough to have a mom that owned her own business as well. She works in the medical field and it could'nt be further from what I do but, her insight was still and still is more than helpful. There's so many roles you have to partake in when you are an owner and you have to not only be multifasseted but, capable of mastering all aspects as well. That is, to be successful. I've read alot of business books, I've tried things that have worked and things that have miserably failed..However, what you learn from experience is irreplacable. It's a matter if you take that experience and learn from it and grow or remain stagnet with the same train of thought.

A few weeks ago I had the chance to meet another woman that was the same age as me and stepping into the world of owning her own business. I strongly support any woman at any age that has a passion for something and is taking that leap of faith and commiting to their dreams. Not that I don't support men that own their own business but, I feel like women have pressures and obstacles that quite honestly men just don't have to face or on a much smaller scale.

I loved to just sit and have coffee and talk weddings for hours..litterally. Nothing is more inspiring to have a conversation with someone passionate about what they do and is genuine in their intentions.
Jessica Watcke, the women of whom I speak of, is going into business with her mom and opening a dress shop in Cheshire named "Bliss". She sought me out to get some insight which is amazing in itself. Only because to me it showed how much she cared to make a difference. Business owners, especially ones just starting out, don't always know exactly what customers are looking for and quite honestly it's hard to find out. Being a stylist and having done so many weddings, I've got to talking with some of my brides over the years...I've often heard the ups and downs of dress shopping. Any insight I could help with to help another business make the experience that much better for a bride is good in my book!

It seems to me like Jessica's Establishment will be a perfect shop that will cater to a range of brides...Because of her passion and her eagarness to focus on the clients needs I'm hopeful for her and her mother's success.

November 12th Wedding/Salon Day

Friday wedding days are long days and throw me off a bit. Usually the weddings are in the middle of the day and I tend to work in the salon for my regular clients before and after the wedding. Today was no different. I started my day off with a bride that wanted to meet and try out my services prior to booking. She was actually from right in town and happen to see our window that said Bridal Services. Here are pics from her trial:

I thought it was great that her bridal dress shop actually let her borrow some head bands to try out at the trial to decide which one would suit best. That helped her choose so much easier. She was able to pick the one she loved and also in the end picked me as her stylist for her wedding day in January! :)

Now it's wedding time! Rach and I packed up and headed out to Hamden for Katherine's wedding.

Car ride was a big success. Discussed the outline for our end of the year meeting with the BE ladies and learned a few things about our presidents...Like, Abraham Lincoln definitely did not have wooden teeth (after much debate with Rachel.) and Someone invented the teddy bear and named it after Teddy Roosevelt. lol

We arrived at Katherine's house and she was so excited for the day. She had the best bubbly personality. She chose the look for her bridesmaids and we did classic french twists on everyone accented with cream and chocolate flower clips to match the dresses. Such a great idea to do when your doing a French twist. It definitely adds to this classic style and makes it more modern. Unfortunately, my assistant doesn't have much experience with doing french twists on really thick hair. (it takes alot of skill tucking in alot of hair like that into the twist.) So, I twisted away on all 5 girls in the party! Usually, when I bring my assistant she does all the curl work required for styles and I do all the finish and styling work.

As we worked away we watched repeat episodes of Say Yes To The Dress. I have to say, I have never seen the show before and it was quite entertaining! lol Made for some good conversation while we got everyone ready. It's funny because I have had 2 brides this year and 1 last year that was actually on the show and all this time I've never seen it.

Katherine was last to get done and her look is a personal favorite of mine. She went with a side bun with curls that had some volume and soft twists going into the style. She used some hair jewelry that were two flowers to compliment the style and just made it that more classic. I can't wait to see the pics with her dress on!

After completing this wedding we headed back to the salon and I finished off my day with 2 colors and a hair cut client. Yes, Fridays are long days but, I get the best of both worlds all in one day. Formal Styling and Color. I wouldn't have it any other way!

My first wedding day blog! Yes, it is slowly winding down for our wedding season and although I had this idea to mentally and sometimes visually document our day with our brides to share our adventures on the road for 2011, I wanted to get a head start now. We still have some beautiful women left on the appointment books and we want to share a small piece of their day from our eyes!

I have to get the girls in the habit of taking pics but, if time doesn't allow or if were unable to do so for any reason then we will still share a piece of what we learned or loved about each of our clients. So here is our day on November 6th, 2010:

More and more we hear about how succesful dating websites are. Clara had met her husband on E~Harmony. It sounds like they were a perfect match from the beginning and thought the same too! Clara shared her story on the many things that occured that proved they were always on the same page. Everything from giving each other the same exact cards for christmas to him trying to find her the right dress for a romantic evening and she happens to go with the same exact dress on he had in mind. I guess great minds think alike! If you noticed earlier I described what we normally would say as soon to be husband at the time we are actually providing our services but Clara also was lucky enough to be a bride twice to the same man!They had a traditional chinese ceremony in China prior to their day we were apart of!!! So cool!

Clara's Beauty Entourage duo were scheduled to be there for 2 hours to have 5 girls completed and were able to finish them early enough to add on mom for services as well.

Anette found us just about a month before her wedding! I am so happy we were able to accommodate her for her day. She had booked services for her and her daughter to come to the salon and get their hair done. She had shorter hair and wanted a full updo so Kayle opted to add in hair extensions to help with that. Anette came in before hand so we could get a perfect match and once we received the hair come back to do her hair trial.

I was in the salon when Anette came in to get her hair done and I felt like she was a regular client coming in we've always known. She was so laid back and her and Kayle seemed to click very well and had alot to talk about.

          I started my day off in the salon with a hilite appointment and then met with my team to head out for our wedding. We arrived at the Inn which we have been to many times before and as soon as we walked in we discovered the infamous MIRROR!!! ahhhhhh! lol The ladies of Beauty Entourage are not fans of mirrors in front of clients. Not that we don't want you to see our work. We would love to show you when we are done. But, we have ALOT of tricks up our sleeves and sometimes as we are working those tricks look umm a tad crazy lol. We don't want you to get nervous or not have confidence in us while we are doing your hair because that intern makes us nervous when it's all just unnecessary worry :) We have actually trained to not rely on the mirror so sometimes what your seeing or nervous about we just haven't got to yet. There are times were working on one section of your head and know about the random piece out of place on the other side but we work our way there and perfect sections at a time.

Although the mirror was a ginormous one lol we still rocked out some hair! Kerry and her bridal party were hillarious. I even had to ask Kerry to stop making me laugh for a second so I could actually pin her hair. These ladies knew how to have fun but at the same time were some classy chicks. We did a range of styles but all cohesive with the same theme..romantic and chic. from Classic waves with a modern loose braid (inspired by a catalogue picture) to Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's. The bride originally had the idea of going with waves half up but, she later was inspired by one of my brides that recently got married to do the half up look with spiral curls instead and ditching the bangs.

My favorite part of being apart of Kerry's wedding was when her soon to be husband sent her gifts to the room. He had gotten her a bag holder as an inside joke and after opening it she told us a story about a time he got her pink towels on a special occassion (can't remember which one.) So the next gift she opened was pink towels!! lol   But, to her surprise underneath it was a small box. I didn't get a chance to see what was in it (lots of people in the room and I was kinda working) But, I did see those tears from her and I know it was something good! These are the moments that seriously make me see and realize I am apart of someone's day they will remember forever.

I also learned from this group about electronic cigarettes! AHHAHHA...That is the weirdest thing I've ever heard of. Iralis branched off and Rachel and I wrapped up and B lined it for the Apple Fritters we randomly saw on the side of the road. They were gross but, we were oh so excited!

Another day down and 3 brides that gave us the privledge to be apart of their special day! Thank you ladies and Congratulations. <3

Welcome to our Blog! I always said we could write a book with our adventures of Beauty Entourage. So I decided instead I would write a blog.

We are a traveling Hair & Make Up team based out of Newington, Ct. Our team consists currently of 6 girls. We travel on site for these services throughout Ct,Ny,RI, and Ma. I started Beauty Entourage in 2005 with just myself and one make up artist and we have grown each year providing our services now for over 100 weddings a year!

Every weekend we get to go out and make women feel beautiful and feel great about themselves. Along the way we have a blast. I'm in such awe sometimes by the people we meet, the things we see, and the hillarious times I have with my team in our car trips alone... Here is my place to share with everyone our days on the road. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
